A motorcyclist was killed Monday afternoon in a collision at a busy downtown Salt Lake City intersection near the federal courthouse. [1]
The crash occurred at approximately 2:15 p.m. at 400 South and West Temple when a westbound motorcycle collided with a vehicle turning north onto West Temple. Salt Lake City Police Department officers arrived and provided first aid, but the motorcyclist died at the scene. Police did not immediately release the identity of the person killed. [1] [2]
Two people inside the vehicle involved in the collision were transported to a hospital with survivable injuries, according to police. A third car was also struck during the incident, though no one in that vehicle was injured. The driver of the turning vehicle remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, who are examining whether vehicle speed played a role in the crash. [1] [2]
The accident caused significant disruptions for afternoon commuters as police closed the intersection and diverted traffic. Debris remained scattered across the area for about two hours, leading to heavy congestion on surrounding streets. Authorities reopened the intersection shortly after 6 p.m. [1]
