Hurkacz Returns from Injury in Shanghai
Hubert Hurkacz is set to resume competition at the ATP Masters 1000 tournament on hard courts in Shanghai following a thigh injury that forced him to retire during the semifinals of the ATP 500 event in Beijing. The Polish player enters the opening round against Australia's James Duckworth on the central court. Hurkacz holds a 2-0 head-to-head record against Duckworth in the men's tour, having previously defeated him at the 2021 Paris Masters and the 2024 grass-court event in Halle. [1]
Upcoming Clash with Novak Djokovic
The winner of the first-round match between Hurkacz and Duckworth will advance to face Novak Djokovic in the second round. Djokovic received a first-round bye as the tournament's tenth seed, entering the event fresh off a victory at the China Open where he captured his seventh title in Beijing and set his sights on further records at the Shanghai Masters.
