Actor Skeet Ulrich stated that he does not plan to film any more content for the Scream franchise, explaining that his character, Billy Loomis, is tied to Melissa Barrera's character, Sam Loomis. Ulrich noted that without Barrera, there is no Billy Loomis, as the character existed as a vision inside her head. Ulrich originally portrayed Billy Loomis as one of the killers in the 1996 original film and later reprised the role via visions in 2022's Scream and 2023's Scream VI. Franchise producer Spyglass ousted Barrera from the films in 2023 following social media posts regarding the war in Gaza. Following her departure, co-star Jenna Ortega announced she would not return for Scream 7, while original cast member Matthew Lillard recently returned to the franchise via a deepfake and stated he felt ashamed for taking part after Barrera's ouster.
