Public Apology Issued After Social Media Backlash
Savannah Bananas baseball player Jackson Olson issued a public apology to Jimmy Kimmel Live! star Guillermo Rodriguez following online backlash over a deleted comment about Rodriguez's dancing skills on Dancing with the Stars. Olson posted a video on Instagram set to the Hannah Montana song Nobody's Perfect, featuring lyrics about making mistakes, where Rodriguez joined in to dance alongside him [1, 2]. In his caption, Olson expressed regret for causing negativity, writing that he is sorry from the bottom of his heart and adding that he loves Rodriguez [1]. [1] [2]
Origin of the Controversy and Fan Response
The tension began after the Loco Beach Coconuts shared a TikTok video on October 3 featuring player Erik Ostberg humorously recreating Rodriguez and professional partner Witney Carson's Yacht Rock Night routine [1, 2]. Olson subsequently posted a since-deleted comment questioning how Ostberg performed the routine better with only two hours of rehearsal, which viewers interpreted as a critical dig at Rodriguez [1, 2]. The comment drew substantial criticism online and sparked fan speculation regarding potential eliminations, with betting data indicating viewer uncertainty surrounding Olson's future on the season 35 competition [2].
